We Catholics do not accept the Bible as the only rule of faith. Besides the Bible we have the living Church, the authority of the Church, as a rule to guide us. We say, this Church instituted by Christ, to teach and guide men through life, has the right to change the Ceremonial laws of the Old Testament…

Fun Facts:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press, or of the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

There has been serious strife amongst citizens regarding this issue. Majority of Republicans and Conservatives believe prayer should be in public schools while majority of Democrats and Liberals believe otherwise. I am here not to take sides but to give an objective view of the issue.
We first have to understand that prayer in public schools has nothing to do with morals. It has nothing to do with a particular group of people acting ‘holier than thou’ nor is it that “the devil have people mind fooled. God is coming for His world soon. These are sure the end times.” Although, outside of this debate that may be a very highly accurate statement. Everyone just calm down. No need for one side of the debate to be calling the other sides names. Prayer in public school is a legal and historical matter. In studying American History we have been taught  that the Puritans left England in search of new land to escape religious persecutions. After new land was found, brushing over the genocide committed to Native Americans by the white man, America now needed people from all over the world (with different beliefs and ideology) to build up it’s economy; America became a melting pot. The founding fathers of America wanted to ensure that the U.S government would not become a system like that of England at the time, a government that was tyrannical to people’s ideology and beliefs. Hence the Bill of Rights was amended to the U.S Constitution, particularly, the First Amendment.

          The law says referring to the first amendment, government cannot enhance or inhibit a particular religion, and since public schools (in America) are funded by the government it would be unconstitutional if students were indoctrinated by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ in the school’s curriculum. However, if the students take it upon themselves to set aside a particular time of day to come together to worship God it is perfectly fine and acceptable… as long as a teacher or another government official is not found advancing (or inhibiting) the worship sessions of the students.
When I was younger I had aspiration of being a lawyer, I still do actually. I use to make naive statements to myself like, ‘I would never defend an accused murderer.’ One particular person comes to mind. Yes, you got it right. O. J. Simpson. In my own self I have a right to say that I would never defend an accused murderer. However, the law says every person whether accused or not is legally entitled to due process of law (Amendment VI). As a would be lawyer it is my responsibility and duty to see to it that every citizen whether presumed innocent or not is treated fairly and equally under the law and to see to it that laws in general are being abided by.
           For those of us who chant and advocate “Prayer in public schools”, we can not continue to do so and yet hold the belief that America is a free nation.  It is an oxymoron; it is like saying the cold sun or the warm snow. My mom use to say to me when I was younger the same things in life that make you laugh are the same things that will make you cry.

          We all have fell victim to relationships that lasted only 2 months, 3 months, 6 months, a year. For some of us it is worse which begs the question, what is love? Is love an abstract entity that comes with time constrains ‘Best Buy Before 03/09/11′. Is it a product that is manufactured with limitations, a 1GB, 2GB, or 4GB memory? Love hurts no doubt. It is also exhausting. Should we continue to give our body and soul away to the wrong person until we get it right, until we find the right person, until we get married? Giving our body and soul away to the wrong person repeatedly seems like a high price to pay for love. And still then, love is not guaranteed because 1 in 2 marriages end in divorce.
          In order to answer that question that has been asked throughout the ages by poets, philosophers, philanthropists and the common man or woman who is in need of a heart transplant, figuratively speaking of course, we first need to learn a foreign language, particularly Greek. Be not dismayed.
          We read in the New Testament of the Bible that ‘God is love.’ God is the author of love. The entire New Testament was written in Greek (the Old Testament was written in Hebrew). Where as the English language use only one word to describe ‘love’ the Greek language uses three different words to describe ‘love.’ It is very important that we know what they are. They are: eros, phileo, and agape.
          Eros pertains to sexual love. This is where the word “erotic” originated from. Eros also involves infatuation. The sensation that comes over you seeing that girl in the skimpy dress at the club or bar or seeing that guy at the gym or at the beach with his shirt off.  A more subtle example of eros would be your childhood crush. Eros can be 

         Finally, there is agape, the greatest love of all. Agape consist of and is greater than eros and phileo. Unfortunately, there is no picture I can use to represent agape, for it is unconditional. Unconditional love is love that no matter what you do or say to someone that person will never stop loving you. This kind of love is love that God has for us; this is the kind of love that Jesus introduced to us in John 3:16.

For God so loved agaped the world that He gave His only begotten son that whosover believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

 Love Agape your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you

Agape is patient, agape is kind and is not jealous; agape does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

          It is for me to observe and absorb my father’s life and career as a wise son should irrespective of the field of study I choose to get into.           Population experts and scientists make the argument that people will start to suffocate on pollution and food supplies will be decimated by global warming unless the number of people on the planet is reduced.

          It is unlikely that the devil is in hell saying to himself “Aww, he is so handsome. I will wait until he is 16 years old before persuading him to abuse women and influence him to drink alcohol to the point of overdosing” or “Aww, she is so adorable. I am going to wait until she is 12 years old to ruin her childhood.” Citizens in the United States were indecisive about Congress passing legislation regarding sex education being taught in public schools including elementary school fearing that children will be robbed of their innocence and youth. However, there was a recent report of two second graders in Oakland elementary school in California allegedly engaging in oral sex with each other. On one side of the debate parents fear that their children will be robbed of their innocence and youth if sex education is thought in schools, particularly elementary schools yet on the other side there are reports of  second graders experimenting with sexual acts on each other in the classroom. 

          If not at age 16, if not at age 12, if not age 11, if not at age 8, if not at age 6, if not at 5 years old then at what age should parents begin informing their children of the evils in this world? My answer is, the moment the parents are aware conception has already taken place. There is nothing comical about a father placing his ears on his wife’s stomach while speaking to his unborn child or a mother rubbing her belly telling her unborn child that there is nothing he or she can not achieve. Parents should inform their children of the evils in this world from the moments “OMG, I’m pregnant” or “Honey, I have something to tell you…I’m pregnant,” onwards.

         There are two issues I would like to address regarding this week’s note. They are: Christianity becoming a polytheistic religion and the supposedly “Word of God,” the bible.

I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life
